Cowon Scraps the 60GB X5. Foreshadowing the "iAudio X6"?

iaudio-x5-60gb.jpg

Cowon is reneging on their announcement to release a 60GB version of the beloved X5. A Cowon representative. stated in an email that there is not a significant demand for a 60GB version, This created quite a stir for the Cowon fans in the iAudioPhile.net forums.

For you irate iAudio fans, let’s stop and think critically about Cowon’s decision? Do you really think that they will never release anything beyond a 40GB player? Cost benefit analysis may not prove the release of a 60GB player to be profitable, at this time. Perhaps instead of retooling the X5 assembly line to fit a 60GB hard drive they are putting their recourses into creating their next generation player, the “iAudio X6”. Something to consider…

Update: Cowon will indeed be releasing a 60GB version of the X5. This was corrected by Cowon representative Kevin Kang in an email to DAPReview. iAudio fans rejoice!

I think they should keep the 60 gig model.
