Mysterious Samsung YP-K5 DAP

samsung yp k5 Mysterious Samsung YP K5 DAP

There’s no evidence of it now, but a press release about the IFA 2006 (a huge consumer electronics show in Berlin) on Samsung’s German site used to include pictures and information about the company’s new YP-K5 digital audio player. Our friends at Akihabara News got a hold of a few pictures before they were pulled from the site, and we snagged the cached press info and ran it through Babel Fish for more details.

The YP-K5 measures 3.85 x 1.87 x 0.74 inches; comes in 1, 2, and 4GB varieties; supports MP3, Ogg, ASF, and WMA files; and utilizes Samsung’s 3D Sound System DNSE (Digital Natural Sound Engine). The more interesting features are what seem to be a large touch screen and some kind of integrated speaker the size of the device itself.

Akihabara News is reporting that the player has just been released in Korea, but with no mention of it on Samsung’s Korean site and the other info coming from Germany, we don’t know what to think. Regardless, it looks pretty cool.

Gorgeous! I really like this.. looks like one upping a touch-screen iPod here.. give us a video version with a wide-format LCD.. and this would be a big Ya-Hoo!! Now this is more like it.. if this starts a new trend, then I’m all for it… and a pink version for Jenn ;-) I hope this little beauty makes it to U.S. shores….

Hmmm, it certainly is a looker – it somehow manages to look bothsleek and sophisticated…definitely something that you don’t currently find in the market. Kudos for Samsung for coming up with something innovative – it’s about time that we start to see something different…I just hope that the sound quality of the speaker is as good as its size…Are they going to release it in U.S. or just in Korea?
