Coby PMP7040 Digital AV Recorder

Isn’t it about time that the Archos AV700 got a playmate? Enter Coby’s relatively new PMP7040 portable media player. In addition to touting a 7-inch TFT display and 40GB hard drive, the player easily goes head-to-head with the Archos on nearly every point: digital audio and video recording, MPEG-4 video playback, photo viewer, and of course MP3 and WMA support.

But where the device runs circles around the AV700 is battery life. The 7.8″ x 4.76″ x 1.26″ PMP7040 houses a removable lithium polymer that can provide up to 7 hours of video playback (compared to the AV700′s 4 hours). Add that to a decent price tag (only $329.95 at B&H), and it looks like the Coby PMP7040 may be the new king on the playground.

DVD backup does work. It plays VOB files with MPEG-2. But I don’t think it can handle ISO images, the file system used by the player can’t even allow files that are 4 GB to be copied to the drive.definitely not any where close to be a best PMP in the market. But you might be able to buy one very cheap, which may still make the player worth it for some ppl.
