Samsung T9B Ties Into You Mobile Phone

Samsung T9B Ties Into You Mobile Phone

We were reporting a while back about the T9 Bluetooth player, but when it hit the shores of the US, Samsung had stripped the Bluetooth. Now the Bluetooth T9, appropriately dubbed T9B, will indeed be hitting the US come March and will retail for $159 for the 2GB and $209 for the 4GB. Both are about a $30 premium over the Bluetoothless T9s.

The T9B has more functionality than simply sending audio to Bluetooth headphones and speakers. The player will tie into any Bluetooth mobile phone. It works like this. Your phone is in your pocket and it rings. You look at your T9B to see who is calling. Pressing a button on the T9B picks up the call and pauses your tunes. With your phone still in your pocket, you speak to the T9B and hear out of the headphones, Bluetooth or otherwise. The microphone is sensitive enough to sit on the table so you don’t have to hold it up to your mouth and look like a fool talking to an MP3 player.

Bluetoothless? I want one with teeth…… and btw, just what exactly is wrong with talking to your mp3 player? eh? I do it all the time and I don’t look any more foolish than normal! … ummm.. wait… that didn’t come out right….

Samsung, it seems like the same old, second-hand treatment…- 8gb T9B for the home market, 4gb for the U.S.- T9B for the home market, T9 for the U.S.- Has plenty of 8gb flash modules for the iPod but none for it’s own mp3 players.- Z5F(FM radio) for the home market, Z5A (no FM radio) for the U.S.When are they going to fix the slow sync issues with the existing T9s without breaking MTP functionality? If it takes 2-3 times longer than other competitive products to sync, its too long!Right now, I’m market for a 42″ LCD HDTV and a 8gb mp3 player. Neither will be someone’s left-overs.

I paired a Dell Axim X51v with a Motorola HT820 BT Stereo headset for listening to MP3′s with satisfactory results because the Axim is A2DP compliant. It works with windows media player, and you can skip forward and back through tunes with the headset controls. It may not be loud enough for some when using BT at ranges of 52-68db (by comparison it achieves 70db when hard-wired to the earphone jack). I did not get good results with Skype however, which frequently dropped audio. I haven’t used it yet for watching movies, but I am hopeful the Skype problem can be resolved. As well of course, with BT and WiFi turned on and just the standard battery pack in the PDA, it sucked the power out in what seemed to be less than an hour, making it not exactly the ultimate portable solution but at least it’s do-able in the now and the PDA is very multifunctional, even replacing my $200.00 Logitech Harmony Remote.

Has anyone used this one as Bluetooth headset with a phone ? Samsung product pages don’t mention it can be used that way hence I checked product manuals and none of the manuals mention this functionality. Can anyone shed light on this one please ?

rew3n on April 24, 2007 5:37 PM

Has this actually come out in the U.S. yet? Cause I can’t find it anywhere and according to this article it was supposed to be here sometime in March.

Pam R on April 26, 2007 6:50 AM

I emailed the Samsung and asked if it was out or when it will come out and was told that it is proprietary information. Looks like we still have to wait

Ray on May 3, 2007 2:13 AM

You will need a bluetooth stereo headset with phone capabilities, no problem several out there, your listening to music, call comes in, press button on headset, music stops phone connects talk, call ends, music comes back on, works awesome seemless nobrainer, using ipod with bluetooth adapter currently, ready to buy the T9B the day it comes out

fanny on May 6, 2007 11:35 PM

my mom bought a yp-t9b from Korea. It does NOT come with bluetooth headphones and the mp3 will not work with any bluetooth earphones u need certain ones so im warning ya.

john hancock on May 8, 2007 7:34 PM

Will any Best Buy stores retail this item?

Mr. Shane Price on May 21, 2007 6:39 PM

im still waiting for the T9B myself. Fanny mentioned it wouldn’t work with random bluetooth earphones that it requires certain headphones. It would have been way more helpful for this person to post which ones. As long as the Bluetooth Headphones support Bluetooth 1.2 or higher and support A2DP stereo distribution you should be fine. Just follow normal pairing procedure. I have the T-Mobile Dash, and the Motorola Bluetooth HT820 headphones and I can say its quite nice, the music pauses when I get a call and resumes when done. Purchase a USB Bluetooth dongle and pair your headphones with you notebook pc, and its nice also!

Fanny on June 30, 2007 11:43 AM

Now that you mention that i think your right. When i tried connecting the t-9b to a cellphone it worked with every cellphone. It worked on Nokia, Samsung, Motorola. So probably you probably wont need certain headphone but for those people who wnat to be sure here is the listbt-620s, pulsar590, SBH-170, SBH-100

The Samsung T9B works with every stereo headphone I’ve tried (Logitec Freepulse, Motorola S9, Motorola HT820) and two of those units are not on the compatibility list. The Freepulse is Bluetooth 2.0 EDR. The bad news is I’m starting to doubt that the T9 blutooth will ever hit the states. They implied that it would be available in March but in July and it’s no dice. I called Samsung and they told me that the T9 bluetooth version is only for other markets. When I informed them that they have had this at a show in the U.S., they told me they did not know anything. For those in the states, Samsung is playing us like suckers. You can now get the 8gb bluetooth version in Germany but you can’t even get a 1gb bluetooth version here in the U.S. Maybe the other OEMs will bring this to market while Samsung tries to figure out which excuse they will use to justify thier decision. To that OEM, goes my money!P.S. – I had problems paring the 8gb bluetooth T9 with the Sprint Motorola Q. They pair but no real functionality beyond the paring.

It was released in Australia in march. Works fine. Beats an ipod into the ground. Plus everyone has an IPOD so you feel more unique qith this little sucker.

Jaywil4 on September 25, 2007 11:35 PM

this still isn’t available in the U.S. and i can’t find any current info that says when it will be. wtf?

Manuel on October 11, 2007 9:31 PM

Just as with the Moto Q, I had problems paring the YP-T9B (4G) bluetooth with the unlocked Ipaq hw6915. They pair but no real functionality beyond the paring.Any suggestion?

George Disrespectful on November 16, 2007 7:46 PM

Samsung still has not said when or if they have changed their mind about bringing this bluetooth device to the States. Their new line-up of MP3 players T-10 etc. Look like old IPODS. The T9B is perfect in design. Can be put in pocket !!! You can’t put these new ones in your pocket they are too long. You call them and they act like they never heard of one.

George Disrepectful on November 27, 2007 6:25 PM

This player would be perfect if it would support two bluetooth headphones at same time like the T-10. It is a much better design than the T-10 or P-2(they are old nano knock offs). Samsung should just do it. Make the T-9B with blutooth 2.0
