Coby looks ready to take aim at SanDisk’s 1GB Sansa Express player with its new MP-C8x6 series of low-capacity flash DAPs. And they have contender quality written all over them. The 512MB MP-C856, 1GB MP-C886, and 1GB MP-C896 feature an FM radio and recorder, voice recorder, integrated USB plug, UMS compliance, and high contrast LCD. Support for MP3, WMA, and WMA-DRM file and cross-platform compatibility come standard, too.
Last we heard, the Sansa Express was going to be priced at just $60. The fact that Coby’s flash players are normally even cheaper than that is definitely good news for anyone looking for an entry-level DAP to take to the gym (once availability is announced, that is).
