iriver Announces Volcano T7 Stick Player

It’s a common fact that certain companies like to “borrow” designs when making MP3 players and with some it might be a step too far. iriver has normally been good at using their own designs, but that can’t be said for their new player, the Volcano T7. It’s so much like the Samsung U3 in both design and features one could think it’s the same player.

The T7 has a built in flat USB connector, small OLED screen, radio, equalizer and SRS WOW sound enhancements. It plays back MP3/WMA/ASF/OGG and comes in capacities of 4GB ($80) and 2GB ($55).

How utterly useless without tactile buttons. Touch buttons are a joke on a device like this. At least they could have tried to “improve” the YP-U3…

Any estimate on when this player will come out in North America? My girlfriend wants an MP3 player as a gift for her birthday (June 23d!) and I want her to get the right one. This is one of the few basic players that will play OGG’s and with iRiver’s reputation of good sound quality I want this player sooner rather than later without paying international shipping costs!

These touch buttons on YP-U3 were great, and the ergonomy of the menu that didnt stop playback. Buttons on T7 are horror! I always press two at time! Also menu cant be browsed without intrppupting the sound. But T7 has much more better sound than YP-U3… at battery cost – 15hrs are fake number, it is about 10hrx max.
