Archos 2 and Archos 4 Back to Flash Basics

archos 2 main Archos 2 and Archos 4 Back to Flash Basics

The last non PMP and flash based player Archos released was the 105. I have one sitting around the office but never stirred up enough gumption to write a review on it since I couldn’t stop yawning every time I used it. Not that it was bad, just nothing exciting and a bit out of date even at its release. This time around we hope that its different. At the very lease it has a nice new modern design and less clunky like the older generation Archos players.

The Archos 2 will follow the 104 and 105 with a simple candy bar form factor, sporting a 1.8” 128×160 pixel screen. This will come in 4GB and 8GB sizes. The Archos 4 is a bit more elusive at this time since we don’t have pics yet- but this will be a 4” flash player coming in 16GB and 32GB capacities. Could Archos be killing off their hard drive models? Likely not, but it appears that they are adding a healthy mix of flash.

one of the main things i dont like about small flash players like this is the small screen side. the boarders around the screen are so big it makes the screen look small and the player look ugly. either make it smaller or use larger screens.

oops, i meant i dont like the small screen “size”

The Archos 4 sounds like a Sansa Fuze beater!

I know that Archos is out of France and that they operate on the metric system, but what the hell kind of conversion are they using that dictates that Archos 2 = 1.8 in. screen and Archos 5 = 4.8 in screen? They got the 4 and 7 right. It’s like they’re saying that if you don’t go balls to the wall and get the latter that they hold back too, .2″ in. to be exact. Hmmm…

Wonder how much emphasis they’re putting on sound quality, this time.

If the sound quality of the 32GB version is good, I’ve found my next player. Sounds like it’ll be no-nonsense which I love.

I agree, if the SQ is solid I may have to go w/a 32gb Archos 4, as that 4″ screen is just the right size between portability and functionality.

hmm… I hope that the Archos 4 will have a touch screen and Wifi… (maybe?) if it does, Im totally sold!

Oh ! Now what !The archos 4 is probably just what i needed.Ah well, i own a P3 now (And I’m quite happy with it)

Despite is modest appearance,I like the way the playerlooks. One of the thingsI’ve been interested in isan audio-only player. Ifthis player has good soundquality and battery life, this might be my choicefor my next player.

I’m excited to see more. Unfortunately the wait appears to have just grown longer. Amazon removed it from their site yesterday, and your link is now dead (as of 4/8/09). Thanks for the early heads up on this, though. I’ll check back for more soon.

I looked on the page; i am french; and they said the 16gb version is 60euros which is about 80 bucks. for 16gb solid state not bad.

Soundquality of the Archos 2 Player is nice. But the Firmware is the worstest shit I ever seen. I’m waiting now for 2 month for a new Firmware.Never ever Archos
