Teclast T58 Teclast’s Latest PMP Runs Android

The Teclast T58 is one of many players which will surface in the coming months to run Google’s Android OS.

The T58, which we hear will be officially announced soon, will feature WiFi and GPS capabilities, a 1280×720 touchscreen display, and of course 720P playback. It’s also packing a dual-core ARM9 RISC processor from Rockchip, and two Wolfson WM8740 DACs under the hood. It supports H.264, RMVB, MPEG-4, AVS, and WMV9 video files, but no word on supported audio codecs, capacities, battery life– or anything else. We’ll know more when it’s announced.

It’s only a matter of time before someone adds phone calling capabilities to one of these, at which point the world will implode.

cool! what’s the significance of 2 wolfson DACs?

I’ll wait for a more reputable pmp maker. Some DACs can be run in mono mode, so, you would need to use 2 DACs, one for each channel for stereo.

You’ve mixed up a couple of devices:Teclast T51: An MP4 player with Rockchip 2806 + 2 Wolfson WM8740 (L+R) + OPA2604 (line out stage) + Philips TDA1308 (headphone out stage).Teclast T58: Android-based MID with Rockchip RK2808 platform that other manufacturers are going to be using as well. RAmos previously got some ink for their version of the same hardware. If anyone’s interested, there’s also the Teclast T56, an MP4 player promising true 1080P playback using a new Telechips TCC8901 platform that will -once again- show up in a number of guises from other manufacturers.
