Ringke Rearth Zune HD Case Review

zune hd ringke case Ringke Rearth Zune HD Case Review

I am not much of a case kind of guy and prefer to let my gadgets wear like a favorite pair of sneekers or baseball cap. But to each is his own. If I were going the route of a case I do appreciate a simple silicone case to wrap up a player in a light coat of silicone. Even though silicone cases are basically the same, there are some slight differences in material grade and fit. Testing out the Ringke Zune HD case by Rearth, I have found my favorite.

With a silicone case the worst case scenario is a weird smelling sometimes sticky case, but most of the time a silicone case is just a plain old silicone case. With the Ringke Zune HD case I actually found something I didn’t know existed- a premium silicone case.

One of the reasons that makes this a premium silicone case is its fit. With the case installed on the Zune HD it is almost as if it was dipped into silicone forming the case. The familiar indented ridges on each side of the Zune HD are also recreated with the case. The same holds true with the tightly formed center media button as well as the quick jump button on the right side. They feel like buttons unlike other silicone cases.

The other aspect of the player that makes is premium is the finish. It is not the typical smooth rubbery silicone case its matte and feels velvety. It’s like a slightly more rough version of the rubber grip backing found on other gadgets like the Sansa Fuze or the a Lenovo ThinkPad or an HTC Incredible.

If you are fan of silicone gadget cases this one is for you. Rearth makes cases for other MP3 players as well, such as the Sony X1000 and the Cowon S9 in addition to lots of other mobile gadgets. Rearth is just getting their start in the US so their page is still under construction, but you can still check out the limited number of products on their site. Additionally you can find them at their web store on Ebay.

When I did my review of this case (http://www.zuneboards.com/?p=vB52714), I found it was too close to the edge of the actual screen. Due to that, it made it harder if not impossible to type on the keyboard, or move edge cards around on solitaire. However, If they were to make one that isnt as close to the edge as this one, I’d buy one for every day of the week.

Yea, I noticed that some silicone cases make it almost impossible to type on the keyboard but this looks interesting and I think I might get one as the case I have now is starting to wear down…

Looks like the case that I’ve always been looking for (besides the issue noted above)

The design ridges in the case makes it unique than the other cases, but like Dillpickle said too close to the screen makes browsing the web a pain with the case on.

Im not such a fan of cases for a machine as pretty as the zune. The zune is a fine looking player and shouldnt be hidden. I understand people want to protect their investment but the silicone cases make it all so bulky and “industrial”
