The Most Disappointing Sansa Fuze+ Unboxing Ever

Seeing that SanDisk started shipping the new Fuze+ from SanDisk.com, I cancelled my order at Amazon and placed an overnight order on SanDisk.com. On the invoice there were two items, the Fuze+ and something called “SanDisk Product Review Request”. Turns out the Fuze+ was in back order and the “SanDisk Product Review Request” shipped overnight. Thinking that they accidentally left off the Fuze+ entry on the invoice, I was excited to  know i was getting my Fuze+ today, because after all who would over night a “SanDisk Product Review Request”?

This morning UPS delivered the package and to my surprise, this is what i received…

fuze plus empty box1 520x390 The Most Disappointing Sansa Fuze+ Unboxing Ever

Inside the 3x9x6.5″ cardboard box:

  • Invoice
  • 1 sq ft of bubble wrap
  • 3×5 invitation to write a review on sandisk.com

I was going to go into an angry rant here about wastefulness and general incompetence, but the disappointment overwhelms the anger. =(

Update: SanDisk has stepped up and taken responsibility for the waste of resources, environmental impact, and most of all customer satisfaction. I have had two phone conversations with two different parts of their company about taking internal corrective measures and ensuring that something like this wont happen again. Its always a breath of fresh air when companies like SanDisk take responsibility and make things right. Thanks SanDisk!

Oh SanDisk, if only they have some way of alerting people without sending actual paper.

Martin Sägmüller on September 3, 2010 4:23 PM

Singing telegram?

Jaiden on September 3, 2010 4:23 PM

its about time sandisk got their head out of their… you get it, and start making some touch sreen devices with wifi and apps!

MarvintheMartian on September 3, 2010 4:54 PM

@Jaiden…..no it’s not. That would be a whole new price point for them, putting them directly in competition with the Touch, and that is a battle they would never win. SanDisk’s niche is the low end of the price structure.

PinoyBoy on September 3, 2010 5:15 PM

Heh… Took me like 2 seconds (a while) to get the rofl.

I was so excited to read the fuze+ review >_> realizing this wasn’t it… Damn you SanDisk!!!1! Still waiting for the review btw ^^ .

I know how it feels, many years ago I bought a vintage cd player on ebay and I received an empty box. I got my money back but the bad moment wasn’t that easy to recover from. I have nightmares about all my shipments since that day ;-)

Mikerman on September 3, 2010 6:18 PM

I know that momentum is a powerful thing and that businesses often operate on it, but wouldn’t you think that someone on the shipping line might actually stand up and note the ludicrous nature of overnighting a product review request, especially when it doesn’t include the product? A total and unfortunate waste of time, energy and resources.

Mrwirez on September 5, 2010 8:28 AM

Think of the waste of resources it took to get you that piece of paper.. The boxing materials, time, fuel, driver time.. etc. Never heard of e-mail? hmm…

pootpoot on September 5, 2010 11:59 AM

That you received a package with no MP3 player, but with a sheet of paper in bubble wrap is funny, but what makes it straight out hilarious is the photo with the “Tell us what you think” note. Comedy gold. LOL

r2d2 on September 5, 2010 7:26 PM

forget fuze+ use clip+! This exists and work perfectly….

Greenslime on September 5, 2010 8:21 PM

I’m piss because I thought I would be able to read a review today! :-( :-)

David Rex on September 6, 2010 12:04 PM

I’m supposed to receive one tomorrow. The order details show the Fuze+ has shipped, so we’ll see. I’ll also be a bit disappointed if I get just the review request.

Leroy Bad on September 6, 2010 3:16 PM

Thats actually hilarious! Especially since they bubble wrapped a letter! But I’d be mad that I had to pay the Overnight shipping cost just for that. You know what? I’d return it!

CatHatMan on September 7, 2010 3:55 PM

im just going to take the $100 dollars i would have spent on a new player and get a 32gb micro sd card. (yes quiver in fear ipod users i can get a 40gb clip+ for less than a nano)

GuppiStar on September 7, 2010 9:05 PM

Dude, Sandisk completely cancelled my order, stating they couldn’t charge my card. BS, the charge was on my account for at least a day, and suddenly dissapeared. I think they took in too many orders and could not handle it so they had to come up with all sorts of tricks to hide their BS. I spoke to a “Bryan” and a “Jason” in an India callcenter and they were just bs*in about the whole enchillada. In a way I am glad that I did get this product, those two bozos just made me even more scared of Sandisk.

David Rex on September 7, 2010 10:03 PM

Well, I fared a bit better… my 16gb Fuze+ arrived today. Looks pretty good… just setting it up now.

Uberman5000 on September 8, 2010 3:56 AM

Can’t wait for it to show up and see how it does. The Fuze+ fills an important niche vacated by the iPod Nano, now that it can’t do video. This almost seems sporting of Apple, doesn’t it? :p

I might pick up the 16GB Fuze+, so I don’t have to carry my Zune 120 everywhere just to watch videos… but I’m going to wait until I can get it in a store. ;)

PinoyBoy on September 8, 2010 4:01 AM

Reviews and hands on pics/vids plox.

CatHatMan on September 8, 2010 3:25 PM

uberman the new ipod nano is a 2 inch multitouch screen. (i hate it; it’s going to get fingerprints all over it)

SilverZero on September 8, 2010 4:53 PM

Just ordered a 16gb last night from the SanDisk website and paid for 2-day shipping (still came in a bit cheaper with a 10%-off coupon code). Nowhere did it alert me that the item was backordered, but of course I got an email this morning saying it is. That’s just not right.

Anybody know when the 16gb will be available and shipping?

Gary Stepic on September 9, 2010 12:58 PM

Where can I get the coupon number for the discount? I ordered from Sandisk and got same backorder email so probably can cancel and reorder with discount.

My biggest problem with Sandisk is it seams the players do not last that long. I have had three clip players and one fuze stop working, I am not rough on them.

David Rex on September 12, 2010 12:29 AM

“Anybody know when the 16gb will be available and shipping?”

I don’t know about current status, but I received one earlier this week.

ericgt on September 14, 2010 11:19 PM

Well if you(or others) didn’t get it overnight, they would of had everyone of them call to ask where it was.

to what’s his name above – Fuze v1 & v2 plays flac and ogg

David on September 25, 2010 7:09 AM

@Gary
Yeah my clip+ has died about 5 times on me and I keep patching it up. My ipod didn’t survive that nor did my sony. I love my lcip+ it lasts you just ahev to tear them apart a few times.

ptc on September 27, 2010 1:46 PM

To their credit, they put it in a box with bubble wrap to prevent damage in transit. Surely that counts for something.

Sansa Fuze+ on October 2, 2010 2:36 PM

This is like the ultimate MP3 player – touch 2.4″ bright QVGA screen, SD expandable, FM radio and high quality music playing.
Because of that I’ve already ordered it from http://amzn.to/aHC80a , it cost me just 80$ (the 4GB version) – I will add a 16GB SD card which costs around 24$ instead of buying the 16GB version for 120$.

Al on November 5, 2010 3:42 AM

hmmm i have the sansa fuze. is it possible to view your playlist on the sansa fuze on your computer?

msa on November 28, 2010 11:11 PM
