Samsung Galaxy 50 Commercial

Samsung Alps, Samsung’s Austria team, posted a video in their YouTube channel showing off the player’s in a near 3 min commercial. It looks like any Android smartphone, but thats not a bad thing since you are devoid of a monthly bill. You will just have to hop between Wi-Fi oases. The Galaxy Player 50 will run Android 2.1, come with a 3.2″ screen, 2MP camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, and a microSD slot. What is exciting abut this is that it has full support for Google’s Marketplace, and the mainstay Google apps such as maps. This is something that has not been done yet with an Android device that was not a mobile phone that I know of. The bad news is there is no word on a US release yet.

Looks pretty cool, except for one thing….not enough buttons for my taste.

Nice as an option. Basically, an Android response to the Apple iPod Touch. Options, and competition, are good things!

And, here’s a companion alternative: the Samsung Intrepid, likewise at the 3.2″ screen size. A smartphone, it’s already available in the U.S. (if you can find it–it seems to be very hot right now, understandably), and it can be used with Virgin’s phone/data plans which start at $25/month for 300 voice minutes and UNLIMITED DATA, and NO CONTRACT COMMITMENT. Even if you don’t pay for monthly service one month, the phone still will operate via a Wifi connection. And there’s a QWERTY keyboard, besides.

VERY interesting, indeed!

Looks kick-ass, but I think black suits Samsung Galaxy better than white.

I like white more for samsung… Samsung has been making phones with white color because of it’s attractiveness of the feminine color in corea.

Would this be able to pair up with your phone via blue tooth and use it as a phone as well?

wat on October 24, 2010 11:54 PM

@Booga There’s an App for That (Copyright Apple inc.)

Meh, looks like an Android device with a mediocre media player (“mediocria player”?).

Booga Booga on October 25, 2010 11:46 PM

Hirudin: But with Marketplace support, and hack-free approaches to install any number of clients, including the upcoming Android port of Rockbox & any number of audiobook and podcast platforms.

Anthony: It’s a PMP. It’s an iPod Touch competitor. And it’s about time.

I cannot wait for this…hate my iPod.

Itaale on January 13, 2011 8:03 AM

a nice looking Android-powered pmp – it can be a rival to ipod, I think. all they need to do is to make the screen better)) Wi-fi and GPS modules would attract people to G50, as well as Android Market will give more opportunities to use it more than just a player!^^
