Zune HD Officially Available in Canada

zune canuck1 Zune HD Officially Available in CanadaNorthernmost of all North Americans, rejoice – you too can now be part of the “Social”. Straight from Microsoft’s business development department, the Zune HD is now officially available in Canada, in three glorious capacities (16, 32, 64GB) and seven wonderful colors. Personal disfigurement customization via engravings is a possibility as well.

Of course the Zune HD has been sold unofficially in Canada for quite some time already, but now it’s all legit, more or less – yet availability of the online store, subscription service, and all that might still be missing. Head over to Zune Originals for more info. Personally, I can’t verify how well that works. Me being in Europe, the site rudely screams “ACCESS DENIED” in 40 point bold font at me when I try to access it. I feel a bit sad, not being part of the “Social”, but that’s how the story goes.

Read more about it in the forum thread.

Buahahahahaha!!!!! They don’t update the hardware, they don’t do any firmware updates, not even a custom EQ – now they release this in Canada.

***FAIL!!!***

I will tell you why this is good news.
1-Zune has not ditched the canadian market
2-Staying one generation behind means getting sweet deals.
32gb for 199$ is awesome in my book. Its the same price as the 8gb Cowon j3(!)

It is all a hoax so far. You still can’t order from the zune originals site (US version) and the Canadian version of the site won’t even load. I even went through the pain of calling zune support and the had was told that “officially” zunes are not available in Canada yet. Wonder what those zuneisiders were on when they released the “good news”.

briant1234 on February 22, 2011 8:21 PM

Are you sure the zune originals site doesnt work in the US? cause i just fully customized a Zune HD, and went the to the checkout stage with out any problems. (i didnt actually buy it) are the problems during the rest of the process? btw, if it does work, it is really nice how there are so many colors and different designs

I have a feeling some over zealous individual saw the state/province box and zip/postal code. These have both been on the site since the old model Zune’s were available. The site does not allow shipping outside of the U.S.

Swizzlerz on February 24, 2011 12:43 PM

the canadian site isn’t working yet. as to changes that had to be made. there was an eror selecting the province. from what it sounds like so they are recoding the site. it will be up next week. i emailed support to ask when.
:) they said by next week the bugs will be out of the site.

It’s working now and I got my order in today! Now back to the pesky subject of whether the Zune HD is really caput.

Too little too late.
Back in November I was dying for a Zune HD, but ended up getting an iPod touch (which I’m very happy with now). And if it took MS a year and a half to get the HD up here, imagine how long it’ll take to get all its services up and running.
