Sony A Series images leaked

 Sony A Series images leaked

UK retailer play.com has jumped the gun with some press images of the new luxury Sony player, and they look fantastic. The new A series player features a 3.4-inch 2.8-inch OLED touch screen, and a similar, but much more evolved design from previous A series players. Strangely enough, the player features wireless file sharing and wireless music streaming but doesn’t come equipped with Wi-Fi. It’s likely Sony will use its Bluetooth tech for these services.

Pricing for the A series will start at $225 for the 8GB version, $267 for 16Gb, $352 for 32Gb and the big 64Gb model will run you $494. The pricing seems pretty absurd at this point considering 64GB competitors are about $100 cheaper than this Sony model. Hopefully that changes with the official release in the coming days, but we shall see.

Sony is really bringing some beautiful designs back to its product lineup.  Its new Vaio computers are stunning, its S1 and S2 tablets look to bring some real design to the world of copy cat slates, and its new DAP lineup is simply gorgeous. Of course beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but I’d say there aren’t too many disappointed Sony fans out there after seeing these images. The pricing is surely a little disappointing though.

Does it have android, apps, and wifi?
No.
Will anyone ever buy this instead of the same-priced iPod Touch?
No.

Beauty doesn’t trump features and functionality.

Surprisingly it doesn’t have Android, app, or wifi. However, there is still a big enough market for dedicated players. Benefits of not having your 3 suggestions include: longer battery life, focus on sound quality, and a simple player that focuses on enjoying music and movies as opposed to other options. It doesn’t suit the needs of everyone, but these benefits seem to big on most ABI’ers wish lists.

With that said, they should have priced it under the market leader. It’s nice to see a thoughtfully designed products vs the same iTouch model that comes out every year, but a little slimmer.

Agreed, sony sure is making good looking stuff these days. They had better have expandable memory slots for those prices. :(

Looks too much like a Samsung design. And lack of WiFi is dissapointing. In any case, expect it to appear this Sunday on Amazon.

i will buy the J3 32GB for around 240euro. good deal?

musichound on July 27, 2011 2:42 AM

WHy in God’s name would someone opt to purchase one of these models when for a lower price one can purchase a Cowon J3 or even the 64GB iPod TOuch? Sony, if these prices will stand, you dropped the ball!

Does making it that pretty make it that more expensive that Sony had to loose the wifi and internet radio? It just costs too much. And when this comes out, the X-series prices will most likely drop.

If the 64GB version price went down to at least $300-$350 then I’d be interested in buying it. I really don’t care for Android,Wifi on a DAP,so music would be its first use for me,maybe even videos if the codec support isn’t too crippled.
