Considering a View
 

Okay, I've been looking around a lot. I was considering a Fuse for it's future support of Rockbox and a Zenfor the screen size, but I realized that what I want both. A Rockbox Google Summer of Code project is to port Rockbox to the View. If that can be done, then I definitely want a View. If it can't, I'm thinking about it. What should I know? Do you owners out there like it? I'm more interested in the hardware if they port Rockbox to it.

Sandisk treats View owners as pariahs, it is unlikely the View owners will consider another sandisk mp3 product again.

stop considering it. views are on the verge of being discontinued.

they were discontinued for well over a year already.

I bought an 8bg View refurb for $60 last month and am very much enjoying it. Good sound, lots of storage, big screen. If you can get one cheaply like that, you should consider it.

I haven't needed any Sandisk support for my View so far.

You're lucky.....I hope your luck continues, because the last firmware update was last June. If you look around the View board at the Sansa forums, there's some bitter, miserable people. :)

No-one has answered my question of how the view would be with rockbox. How is the View's hardware? The reason I ask is my e200's scroll wheel gets in the way of the buttons, and the wheel light is really bright.

Rockbox has been at a standstill for about a year for the view.

Most of the rockbox effort at this point is going toward the clip, the fuze, and the cowon d2. Rockbox support for the view is not likely.

Its less that the port stalled or that people focused on other things, and more that obo is the first person to ever take interest on starting a View port.

Anyway I wouldn't buy a target that doesn't run rockbox in order to run rockbox unless you intend to do development work.

I'm definitely only getting the View if and when Rockbox comes out for it. I thought since it was a GSoC project, it would be done.

If Rockbox is important to you on a player, the V1 Fuze is getting closer than the View probably ever will. Coming from the sansa e series it would be a great player for you.

The sansa view has treated me well, I get exeptional battery life too. Had no idea the View got discontinued. Its been a while since I've been here :o
