Sony NWZ A818 Wont' start up / or power up?
Would anyone know why Sony NWZ A818 won't power up or charge or show any kind of 'life' when the usb is connected to the computer.
Could the battery be dead, if so how do I change it?

Well, The A818 is pretty old, so the battery's probably dead. My friend's E series just died yesterday too....
You can go send it to Sony to get the battery replaced... but with the price SOny asks you to replace the battery, you'll be better off getting a new Sony Walkman

Battery replacement
Kool, Anyone know how to change the battery, cos new battery are available on ebay for around £10.

Just remove the 2 screws on the back. The battery of the 818 is "glued" inside of the player so I don't think it will be very easy to remove. But still, I am sure the battery CAN be removed/replaced. Just make sure you know what you're doing:)

battery change
Thanks, I don't know what I'm doing?
I don't know how to change the battery, hence I'm asking someone who knows for some guidance?!

I think you'll be better off getting the new A series (if you're in Japan), or one of the newer generation Walkmans. Its just not worth the work and price for me. But, if you really want, you can search up how to change the battery

To change the battery for the Sony NWZ A818
To change the battery for the Sony NWZ A818 was soo easy. Here is how I did it, the player went dead I hit the internet and found this site. I ordered the battery from eBay (link below)
If you try this isnít on your own head, I take NO responsibility, this was a player bought in the UK, and so I am not sure if the same applies to different regions of the world.
1. Keep the player at body temperature for a while it helps, loosen the battery (see below)
2. First undo the two screws
3. From the screw end pry the back off first, this is the most difficult part as the battery is stuck on to the case body & the cases back, how sticky think duct tape. The top of the back is latch hinged with two tabs.
4. Once you get the back just a little of you have to pry the battery of the back of the case first (take you time) I used a small flat screw driver to do this.
5. Once you get the battery of the back and main body of the case you will see (you might need a magnifying glass & bright light) the battery is attached to the main unit, with a small plug, how small see photo (the plug next to a 1p UK)
6. Gently, I used a pair of tweezers, give the plug a pull, it should come out, remember the plugs orientation making sure that the metal parts of the plug (showing in the picture) in to the player, plug in the new battery I got an instant boot up so I knew the player was working, re assemble the player putting in the top hinged tabs first, fasten the screws.
Job done, I didnít put any sticky fixing on the battery, as is seem to fit fine :):)
The battery took 2 hours to charge, and has been going for the past 2 weeks without a problem, so much so I have ordered another battery to have.

Batteries of these Sony NWZ 8xx are really crap. They charge fast (1h30 to 2h for full charge) but thet deplete fast as well (8-10 hours on my my 847), probably due to their small form factor (really thin).

This is probably the major downside of these players...
