YP-U5 freezes after moving forward to position, ogg/vorbis

I've got a Samsung YP-U5JA here and it reproducibly freezes, when it is used the following usual way:

- play an ogg/vorbis title
- press the pause button
- push the back button shortly (you are at the beginning of the title again, playback is still paused)
- move forward to a desired position of the title
- press play and the YP-U5 freezes. It only helps to push the reset button at the back of the player

Remark: This happens only with ogg/vorbis files and not with mp3 or flac. In general the player is working fine for playing ogg/vorbis files except the above case.

Would be interesting if this bug can be reproduced by somebody or reported to Samsung.

Tested firmwares: 1.33 and 1.52

Thanks

my U5 always freezes too, but it will be normal when I access the Reset point.
I'm using v1.51, v1.52 alway freezes so I dont like.

But my MP3 dont have any of your problem.

Also my one freezes.
I've seen that is sufficient to press forward key for few seconds ( move forward inside a track ) while playback is paused to cause the freeze.
Version 1.34

Okay guys, I'll send an email to the R&D ;)

Samsung Korea found this bug. It will probably be fixed in the next firmware ;)

lebellium,
If you have contact with Samsung R&D, maybe you can give it our customer's wishes?
For example:
1. Possibility to do bookmarks;
2. Sorting according to file/folder name in "Tracks" mode, instead of on tag "tracktitle" as it now;
3. Transition in the following folder in other modes of playback;
4. Possibility to make the dream timer "infinite". I.e. if I put the timer on hour, I want that at following PowerOn of player the timer again has been turned on and has again switched off player hour later.

And something else...

Guy from our local forum has bought U5 one week ago with firmware 1.55. Is there some details about it and how soon it will be shared?
Thanks

PS Sorry my English.

Samsung firmwares only fix bugs, they do not add new features.
They will never take these requests into account, I'm sorry ;)

A guy on a Chinese forum also got a U5 in 1.55 firmware.
I don't understand that, I don't know if it can be downloaded and what it improves

Ok, if R&D onlyfix bugs - i have one for them.
If In mp3 mode during playback i go to main menu(by "back" button) - music doesn't stop. But in FM mode in the same situation - radio goes down. I think it's not a feature - it's a bug (c) :).
Thanks.

Agree, silly that there is no mode with consecutive alphabetic playback of all contents of the player... It's the same that "MS windows explorer" will always sort files only by date...
It is more pulls on a bug than on a non-realised feature...
Sorry for persistence, and thanks again.

-Radio: That's not a bug, that's normal. Either it's an hardware limitation or a software limitation. There was the same thing on the P2. I also think that's quite boring but that's it!

-Samsung DAPs share most features. What you request doesn't exist on any Samsung DAP (I own more than 10 models) so you already know the conclusion... I'm sorry ;)

Things I have requested to the R&D and that can be expected to be fixed in a new firmware are only the following ones:
-Freeze in OGG playback
-DNSe bug: inefficient 60hz band in user EQ
-"The scrolling in the music library is very slow when you have hundreds of songs. Is it possible to add a faster scrolling using up and down arrow keys for scrolling by line but also left and right arrow keys for scrolling by page like on the R0 ?" > But I'm pretty sure they won't add that as it is a new feature.

just all samsung players can't sort&play all files by name? I'm Shocked . Really.
U5 - my first samsung DAP. And now i think - last.
Ok, i understood samsung position, thanks for info.

lebellium 06-15-2010 02:54 PM

If you put all songs in the root Music folder yes it will display all songs in the same list and sort them by name via the Music browser.
But if you use different folders and sub-folders the U5 will display them, it cannot display all songs in the same list (file name sorting) if files are contained in different folders and subfolders

What you want doesn't exist on any DAP I guess. I know Creative, Sony and Cowon players, no one does that.
Either you have the tag navigation or the folder navigation but there is no hybrid mode like what you want.

If you really want that, you'll have to put all your music files in the main Music folder on any mp3 player.

If you really think about it, your request is a bit strange. You want a folder navigation that doesn't respect the folders display so that it sorts all musics in the same list by file name.

The reported bug has been fixed as of firmware 1.56.
Thanks for forwarding the information to Samsung R&D.

lebellium 08-30-2010 03:28 PM

You're welcome!
This firmware was low priority for Samsung, that's why it took so long time but I reminded them last week they promised to release it so they finally did it, I'm happy :)
