My Samsung U6 preview
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/...7e5139cea1.jpg
My first impressions on the Samsung U6. Please bear in mind it was a sample with a beta firmware. But it's close to the final version. Slideshow: http://www.flickr.com/photos/generat...92545629/show/ http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4129/...7ec0cd5b4d.jpg Design/finish Samsung has made a big effort on that point. The U3 and the U5 looked rather "cheap". Here is a full aluminium finish. I love it: it has class and it's robust. It's available in 2 colors: Pink (not for me beurk Oo) and Black, full black. I would have prefered white or metal buttons like on the black U5 or pink U6 But well, there are tactile buttons and the USB slides. You won't loose the cap anymore :) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4150/...41e4fdba57.jpg Interface http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4128/...34034ae0e0.jpg I'm a bit disappointed here. I like the interface of the U5, I've no problem with it but well...when you buy a new product, you like when it's different from the previous one. Samsung could have changed the interface a little bit! The screen is new: it's a color CSTN 1" (128 x 64). Now there are brightness, color and contrast settings. Oh and there are new popcons, that's important :rolleyes: Music/sound http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4128/...9f690daf43.jpg It's the same now playing screen and audio support (MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC) as on the U5. But your album cover displays in color now! :D I did not test the sound quality as the environment was noisy and I only had Creative EP630 with me. There are new SoundAlive effects (voice, instrument, tweeter, big bass, concert hall) and a User SoundAlive. No more Rock, Jazz, classical, R&B EQ anymore. That's a bit weird^^ But the SoundAlive engine is not in its final version yet. That may still change. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4112/...5be24104c6.jpg Other features There is RDS FM tuner, a fitness feature, a voice recorder and a Study Mode like on the U5. Nothing new here Conclusion The U6 is not a revolution but a good revolution that draws its inspiration from the previous "U" models but just keeps the best ideas (slide USB from the U3, tactile buttons from the U5 etc) Because of the metallic design, the U6 is quite expensive: The 2GB versions costs €59 and the 4GB model costs €69. It will be available in October in France (I don't know for the other countries) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/...a691d4b3f1.jpg |
The firmware 1.05 has been released and the user manual is available: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...ENGLISH1.0.pdf

How about a 16GB U6? :D That would be pretty awesome.
|
I guess a 16GB version could be available on the U8 or U9 :D
|
all i can say is... you need a pedicure. :D
no seriously, great pictures looks like a neat no nonsense player with a sleek design. also, i can see pedobear does approve, so this is recommended by the highest of authorities. if it weren't for the cost, one could get one of those as a workout player. |
@lebellium What's the MSC/MTP status? Same as U5?

Maybe he plays guitar and fingerpicks :p Besides they weren't all that long anyways... lol A cool stick player indeed, though I have no need for one atm. :) |
Yes, MSC/MTP in EU/US region code and MSC only in KR region code.
Yes I play the guitar but that's not the reason if there is one. Maybe I don't care on my fingers and nails :rolleyes: |

:D anyway, it's not so much the length, rather the skin around the nail bed.:D:D:D nah just kidding. trying to be funny, but failing miserably. |

b2t, i guess. |
The U series has gone through total of 5 changes. For example, taking the cap off the USB, separating the cap from USB, making into a touch button etc. It has evolved with many changes, but the U6 seem to have the most stable function and design. Personally, I love the fact that it has returned to a simple and angular design like the U3, instead of a streamlined shape like the U4 and U5.
