X7 doesn't read its files - solved -
Hi there,
I have just received my X7, had fun with it for a couple of days. After reading quite a bit on this forum I decided to delete the param.cfg . When I turned the cowon back on it was empty, even the samples had gone. But if I look on the hardware on the PC all my files are there. So my cowon is not reading, recognising its files. I have reformated, deleted the music and put it back on, reset, updated data...nothing. Any suggestion? |
solution found
I managed to get it going again by reformatting the flash memory and sticking the latest firmware on it.
It works a treat now :) |
Always nice to see that things worked out well. Why not add (Solved) to your thread title? You can do that in the Edit >Advanced menu. Makes it much easier for the next person to find your solution.;)

I am having this same issue (using MAC). I transfer my music files (FLAC), to my device, it shows them on the hard drive (when connected to my computer), but when I eject my device and click on any of the music options (albums, artists...), it says "no file"???"
I sent it in for repair but it checked out and they do not know how to fix it. What the heck! Anyone help? |
Can you explain how you reformatted flash memory? I would appreciate it!!

reformat cowon
make sure your cowon x7 is 80% charged
download new firmware 2.07 make sure your windows computer has updated drivers 1-make sure cowon x7 is powered off and plug the usb to it. 2-go to my computer and highlight x7 flash and right click on it, click format and do quick format. 3-drag the new firmware to the flash x7 (there should be nothing in there except the firmware). 4-safely remove the cowon and remove the usb from cowon. now the cowon will update and shut off. put it back on and it will update firmware. now you will see language screen just follow the prompts and thats it. I hope it works for you |
it didnt work for me!? i did everything you said but nothing worked. is it because i did it on a macbook? and how do you format you cowon on a mac. "2-go to my computer and highlight x7 flash and right click on it, click format and do quick format." that step i didnt do cause i didnt know how to format it. can please anybody help me?

Please try to update your firmware on a PC if you can access one.
The X7 already has enough issues with simple file downloading from a Mac, so don't gamble, update on a PC. ;) BTW, the last firmware is 2.08, not 2.07. |

If you put the files in the right place (root folder) from a PC, it should work. Quote:
And you shouldn't need to format unless something has gone terribly wrong. |
yosie - you're a genius !
I've had a dead X7 for weeks since plugging it into a Mac. Tried all sorts or remedies including updating the firmware but I hadn't formatted the drive first. Found this forum on searching and Bob's your Uncle. Thanks very much for advice.

Thanks Yosie!
Have had the same problem - the 'support' people at Cowon were no help whatsoever, but your solution has worked a treat. |

Hi there
What file extractor did you use before moving the firmware over to the flashdrive Ray:confused: |
