Zune 4.8 Quick Search issue
Hi all!
I upgraded Zune Software to 4.8 and it seems as though there is a small bug in it. Now, when I'm on Collection>Music>Songs, that neat feature where if you just start typing, it does a quick search jumping to the song you want no longer works. Now what it does, is it lets me type in a song, but it doesn’t go to it. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to fix this, short of restoring my computer? Thanks! |
same problem here!...and i cant find any other person with this issue...u'r the first one...this is very annoying...maybe ill write to microsoft... =(

Dang :(. So I guess a restore wont work... ya it's very frustrating! Compared to some people my music library isn't huge (just over 1200 songs) but it's large enough to be a huge inconveience :(

Here is a change log. It looks like it's all WP7 oriented. Duh. So, if you can't make it work, go on back to 4.7. Link to 4.7 download.
Once mine finishes updating I'll see if I have the problem too. EDIT: yup, I've got the same problem. Must be a bug. Maybe Dave'll drop by and notice... :p EDIT2: And it just started working for no reason at all... I don't know what I did differently, so I can't give advice on how to make it work. EDIT3: So I just found out more info. It moves to select the song that you type for, it just doesn't scroll to it. I'm thinking the best way to put up with it for now is to use the artist section to go to the artist that plays the song, and select the song from there. |
Ya, thats what I've started doing. It's reaaally annoying though. Hopefully MS will notice soo enough and release an update!
|
I definitely hope so, too. Let us know if it does, if you could? I don't go into the Zune software that often anymore.

I think this is what your talking about?
https://connect.microsoft.com/Zune/f...-on-songs-list If so yes it is broken. Hopefully they fix it soon. Maybe we can get Dave to look at this. |
^ Dave isn't with MS anymore.
And the bug is known by the team: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/z...3-ec54671796e9 |
Zune 4.8 Quick Search Issue
I have the same problem here. I was dreading making the update. Every time I upgrade the Zune software another problem is introduced. After the last update, I now have a feature that whenever I double click a song in the collection interface, it pauses for 5 seconds before playing. So, was not surprised when this was the first thing I tried after install and it didn't work. They will likely never fix it. Complaints on the last update went unanswered.

They'll definitely fix this stuff, if they want WP7 to be competitive, they're going to need software that, you know, works.

Zune 4.8 Quick Search Issue
I appreciate and encourage your optimism. My fear is that now that the software as gone the way of primarily servicing the phone - that "minor" issues like the one we're having will take a far back seat to the concerns of "most" users. However, this is clearly a bug and should be fixed (well... there are at least 3 people who've seen it - who knows, it could be some wacky configuration issue). I've tried a number of different actions after typing the items I'm "quick searching" for (like enter or page down) hoping that something will work, but no joy as yet. You would think with all the time between releases that they would have checked this out a little better. :(

Zune 4.8 Quick Search Issue
With a little more playing around, I figured it out.
There is a new SORT field added for both the Title and the Artist fields. Those, of course, are unpopulated. Presumably, this is to allow you to sort by ARTIST last name and Titles without the preceding "The" etc. THis is a good thing as I have all my artist fields populated LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME. I can now change them all back! (just sweating thinking about all that work for 15000 songs. Anyway, I populated the SORT field for one Artist, tried the quick sort and it worked like a charm. You would have thought they might have mentioned in the release notes that they added this "feature". In the edit dialog, look in the lower left corner for the SORT button. Now, the question is, do they have to populated for every track for this to work? |
