There are also some LiPoly buffered Solar battery chargers with USB output, that work very well. Similar charging time, compared to a real USB port on the PC.

I believe that Creative PMPs REQUIRE a proprietory Creative charger. In other words, you're pretty much forced to buy a Creative BRAND NAME charger. I believe that Creative PMPs are programmed to require data on the USB lines to charge properly. Computers have data on the USB lines. The Creative BRAND wall chargers simulate data on the USB lines. If it make you feel any better, I believe that Creative is not the only company that tries to force customers to buy their brand of charger. Cheap, substandard chargers can damage the battery in your device, or the entire PMP itself. I'm not really all that upset about having to buy a Creative charger.

UPDATE: reportedly the Gomadic USB charger with the "Creative" tip will charge Creative products. The nice about Gomadic chargers is the the "tips" on the end of the charger cable are interchangable. So, one USB charger with right "tips" can charge a Creative, an IPOD, an Archos 43 and plenty of other devices. i might give it a try.

No, this is not true. You only need to apply 4.75..5.25Volts on the USB-Port. The supply must be able to deliver at least 300mA. Every charger or battery pack meeting this specification, will work.
