Cowon X5L 240GB w/both batteries being used

Hello,

Have assembled a Cowon X5L 240GB with both batteries utilized. Found longer screws of the same diameter and pitch used for the back cover and fabricated a black gasket to seal the slight gap remaining after assembly.

PATA to ZIF adapter from Libmart, Korea. (But it isn't ZIF to insert -- it's a very tight fit).

Looks great and works well with Rockbox.

When ZIF SSD come down in price the gasket may not be necessary any longer.

Great battery life and LOTS of room for FLAC.

Had to post something X5 related!

More updates:

Replaced both, old, single batteries with a single Samsung Galaxy Note 2 3100mah battery. Still using the Toshiba 240GB drive. Upgraded the coupling capacitors from tantalum to 220ufd aluminum electrolytic placing those capacitors in the cavity left by the smaller battery. I took a few pictures.

In the "closeup" picture note the four red wires on the upper right of the circuit board. Those wires are terminated at the capacitors (wrapped in electrical tape) as show in the "gutted" picture. The Note2 battery barely fits the width of x5l casing and the height extends above the lip of the retaining bracket. I used the wires and connectors from the original battery for this battery. The connector fits in the gap between the drive and the upper plastic bracket. Not shown is the copper tape used to ground the boards to the front and back casing. The additional thickness is compensated through use of longer back case screws. We'll see how long the battery lasts after a few charge cycles.

Sounds great ;) Can't wait for the pics.

Hmmm ... I also have some big phone batteries. I might try to fit one inside my X5 and get the old one out. Right now I have an old Palm PDA battery installed ;)

The Galaxy Note (original) battery would also fit. I can't really say if a battery larger than the Note II would fit. There is virtually no width remaining. There could be a bit more length but I'd have to find someplace to put the battery connector or not use the connector at all. Any thicker and I would have to find longer screws or find another way to securely mount the back.
