Rockbox risks?
 

I am relatively ignorant when it come to managing files on my new Sansa Fuze and have a couple of questions about Rockbox:

What are the advantages of swapping?
What are the risks in terms of it not working or messing up the Fuze altogether?
Will it affect the warranty?
Has anybody had a bad experience of Rockbox?

Is this the original Fuze or the touch screen Fuze+ (or Fuze Plus)? To the best of my knowledge Rockbox is not available on the Fuze+.

Rockbox is not for everyone. Some people have installed Rockbox, and then backed off.

OK: would it just be a question of uninstalling Rockbox should it go pear-shaped and then re-installing the original firmware, or is it more complex than that?

It's the original Fuze, BTW (by recommendation from ABI members)

For what its worth I think no one has managed to screw up a fuze.

If I managed to install & remove RB I think ANYBODY can do it.

I've managed it on the Zip without the benefits if the automated installer, so any target with installer capability should be easy as pie, as long as people do a little reading.:)

I always found the installer too complicated... seriously, you drop a bootloader and a firmware on the thing and that's it.

Yeah but we can't distribute the patched firmware files directly, so you need a tool to patch them in the first place. Or at least to find someone who is less concerned about annoying Sandisk's legal department who will host them for you :)

Aaaah, right - totally forgot about the legal shenanigans. :D

Without taking it the wrong way when I read your statement, I can't stress enough for people to read the manual before they do anything so that they feel more comfortable if they decide to move forward. No harm in reading it even if you decide not to try rockbox, good luck ...
