Update to Android 4.0 ICS?

Would the next update be for ICS?

steinburger1109 01-08-2012 02:09 PM

That would be the next logical step up from Gingerbread.

tcat 01-08-2012 02:12 PM

"Logical" might be Honeycomb, preferred would be ICS.

DBearsfootball 01-08-2012 02:14 PM

why would they use honeycomb next?

tcat 01-08-2012 02:39 PM

My only logic is: 2.3.5.....3.2.....4.0

Honeycomb is for tablets. The Galaxy S is not getting ICS but there is a ICS port from cyanogenmod.

steinburger1109 01-08-2012 03:09 PM

The SGP isn't big enough for honeycomb to be logical, IMO.

Samsung never said ICS isn't coming, only that out will first be brought to newer players/phones, and that then they well assess the need for it on other devices.

DBearsfootball 01-08-2012 03:19 PM

i think we all can agree it needs the update to get rid of the bugs

steinburger1109 01-08-2012 06:45 PM

Actually, it runs very well for me...

Goucham 01-08-2012 09:47 PM

Ditto. I have a stock SGP 4.0 (US) and a couple nit picky issues aside (e.g. EXIF tagging quirks in snapped pics) it just works. I went in fully expecting a buggy gen one product but it is surprisingly glitch free. *knock wood*

Mine works good minus the battery isn't what is expected for having a big 2500 Maj. Other then that it works pretty well

steinburger1109 01-10-2012 11:01 AM

Mine goes at least two days without needing a recharge, though I plug it in most nights at least till it's back to 80%, 100% if i'm going to be gone for a while the next day.

Which firmware are you running? I got one of the pre-USA release versions running Froyo and the battery life was pretty bad. Flashed to Gingerbread and it has been much better. (Also got vastly improved GPS locking with the flash).

I haven't got the confirmation from Samsung yet but I guess you can forget ICS on the Galaxy Players 4.0 and 5.0. Indeed the Galaxy S won't be upgraded officially for technical reasons (they claimed that there is no enough memory for both ICS and Touchwizz ) so there is no reason that the galaxy players with almost the same hardware spec get it ;)

n3000 01-14-2012 04:35 PM

Samsung has a hard time to put ICS to some of its mega-seller smartphones so for the poor selling underated under-radar SGP i have no hope for ICS.

Anyway you can do like a lot of people who had Windows XP and customized it to look like ICS. You can download some ics skins and the music player in ICS, etc :D

motchmaster 01-14-2012 07:59 PM

They're not even updateing their good phones. Forget the Galaxy Wifi.

rikiflamme 01-14-2012 08:58 PM

But I still have some hope about seeing CyanogenMod 9 on Galaxy Players...

Right now I'm working on a build of CM7 and after I'll try to build CM9 (I have a AOSP ICS build but I can't finish it. I don't know why)

Zyxxeil 01-18-2012 07:08 PM

THANK YOU. Can you please update me in your progress and if there is anything i can do to help you with this build. ASK ME.....

lebellium 01-24-2012 05:14 PM

I got the confirmation from Samsung.
As expected, no official ICS release is planned for G1 and G70 ;)
