Preparing to install Rockbox

I've had my Fuze (v1) for a few years, but I'm tired of the horrible gaps during playback, so I'd like to install Rockbox. My question, is there anything I should do before installing? I have some music on the player and some on the microSD card...should I move all music to the card? Should I do a factory reset? Also, I noticed some of the themes require certain fonts, how do I install the fonts?

Thanks in advance...this will be my first Rockbox install...a noob! :D

I'd read the manual at least through Browsing and Playing. Everything after that will be much easier.

Make sure all the music was put on in MSC mode. It doesn't matter if it's on the card or the player. It should be found by both the Rockbox file browser and database wherever it's at on the player as long as it was loaded in MSC. If you loaded any of it in MTP or autodetect take it back off and reload it in MSC. If you have backups you could use the in built sansa formatting facility to wipe everything and just reload it after the installation.

I'd check the file structure with whatever file checking facility your OS provides. Checking the file structure for errors isn't a requirement but it can't hurt to be sure the player is in good condition before you make a major change.

Follow the automated installation directions you'll find in the manual. You'll need to provide a copy of the OF during the installation. You can find the one appropriate for your player here. The Rockbox Utility also provides links during installation where you can find the needed firmware file. The installer will fetch and any font's and themes you want during installation.

Thanks for the reply, skip! I've been using WMP to load music onto the Fuze, and I think the player has been set to auto detect the whole time. I'll probably just delete the albums that are on the player, and re-add them after getting RB installed.
