Nokia Maps gets advanced route planning and Groupon integration
Nokia has updated its Lumia-exclusive Maps app to v2.5, adding support for advanced route planning, Groupon Now! integration, and much more.
With advanced route planning, it’s now possible to create a route between any two points. Simply specify a starting point, a destination, and whether you’d like to travel by foot, car, or public transportation. Once you’re done, routes can be pinned to your Start screen or shared with friends on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Routes are also automatically synced to your Nokia account, allowing you to access them on other Lumia devices or on the Nokia Maps website. The only downside is that this feature currently only works in the US.
Another new feature, Groupon Now! allows you to find nearby deals based on your search results. So if you’re looking for “pizza,” Nokia Maps will place a small green Groupon logo next to any restaurant with a special detail. Simply tap on the listing to get the usual map and directions, as well as additional information about the deal in question. Selecting a deal, however, takes you to Groupon’s mobile site.
Finally, Nokia Maps 2.5 supports live traffic reports which are updated every three minutes, as well as a “Explore Nearby” feature which brings up the top 25 places near your location. The free Nokia Maps app is currently available for download – exclusively on Lumia devices – from the Nokia Collection on the Windows Phone Marketplace.
