Is it a padlock?
So is your player going into locked mode without pushing the switch all the way to the right? Maybe try jiggling the on/off switch to see if that helps?

I've had the same problem
Seems to happen when I have the micro sd card in the player. Not sure why that would happen, though.

Per file resume feature in Pilot and Sport
The Pilot and Sport have a per file resume feature for mp3 files (ONLY mp3 and audible) that are in the Audible folder. This should work for podcasts as long as they're mp3.

Transferring protected audiobooks
Hi Mike,
I think with any player you have to sync the audiobooks (Netlibrary) to the player as the license will not transfer with drag and drop. I've used RealPlayer in addition to WMP to move...
