I used the stock for a while, and then used super.fis which were nice but really needed attenuation. I'm using Koss KSC75s right now which sound REALLY good with this player.

You just have to tap the play button. It's recessed, though, so it's not trivial to do. I flip the hold switch whenever I stop listening.

It's clear bass, and I don't think I've noticed this. The EQ does tend to be more reductive than additive, though, which takes some getting used to.

Uh... that's true of the majority of DAPs, including the Ipod. It sucks, but it's a fact of life unless you want to restrict yourself to the few players that have removable batteries or support AAAs.

I have transferred files via UMS on Windows 2000 and Ubuntu Linux, and it works fine. The only caveat is that you will need to embed the album art if you want it to show up....
