I am guessing that they cannot really mp3 format since my podcasts are in mp3 format and show up fine. Download mediainfo from mediainfo.sourceforge.net to see if they really are in mp3 format file.

Have you taken it apart? It sounds like the LCD ribbon connector may be loose or have a bad connection, if it is connected via a ribbon type cable that is.
