It appears his HD is beyond saving. Reloading Rockbox appeared to fix the problem but I ran chkdsk E:/r on it and never got past 38%. At that point none of my machines would even work with the HD...

Is there a DRAM chip in there for buffering duties? If not, and there's a dedicated physical area of flash memory for buffering it seems like that would get way more use than the rest of the flash.
