No you dont... If you have an ipod you can use a lot of linux aps to put your music on it for example Rythmbox supports it and my podcast downloader does too (Gpodder).

Yes, you use flash. You'll have to learn Action script 1/2 (3 doesn't work with S9). You will have to save it as Flash 7 also.
