Yeah, never been a problem for me, besides, looking at mine, the edge of the card needs to be pushed inside the edge of the player (If u get what I mean) for it to pop out of the slot so I doubt that...

It's not absent in Rockboxed Clip+ either. While I haven't heard a "regular tick" there are definite little beeps and whirs during playback and when paused. I don't notice them while playing music...

If you cant set region after a factory reset (I haven't tried myself) You could install the rockbox bootloader FW briefly then reinstall the Sansa FW and set it that way or you could just use rockbox...
