Greetings -
Considering a Fuze. Can anyone advise what the maximum size is of microSD card that the Fuze supports? (i.e. - will it support 32GB, or is 16GB the max?) Thanks, - Richard

All sandisk sansa players since the e200v2 series can support microsd cards up to 32GB. So yes, the Fuze can support 32GB microsd cards.

There is a song limit of around 8,000 songs though, so if you use a low bitrate, the player might not be able to access all the songs on a 32GB card. The limit can be as lo as around 4,500 or so, if someone uses embedded album art, or uses long filenames or long tags. if you use at least 192 kbps, your songs average at least 4 minutes, you don't use embedded album art, and don't have long filenames or long tag names(and don't have heavily nested files-folders in folders in folders, etc) then the player should be able to access all the songs on a 32GB card.

64GB cards will probably work as well, although at the moment none are available to test.

64GB cards won't work, since the MicroSDHC standard tops out at 32GB. Only MicroSDXC cards break that barrier and theoretically will go up to 2TB in size. but it's irrelevant for our Fuze/Fuze+ Players.. maybe if Sandisk will be kind enough to include microSDXC in the next incarnation.. as well as bring back the nice wheel, we'll all be that much happier! (not to mention extend the file reading limit)

You are wrong, it has been proven to work in many players after being formatted to FAT32, like the Clip +, Clip Zip, Fuze, J3, etc ... there are various posts in abi and in other forms. I did a quick search and came up with http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...&postcount=317

The e260 definitely had the worst wheel I've ever used, however the Fuze had the perfect wheel IMO,it was smooth and fast to turn all the time, unlike the e260 wheel which required too much strength to turn.

The wheel of your E260 required strength? My E250 isn't nearly as smooth as my Fuze but there's not that much effort involved. Scroll wheels in general require more effort in the number of turns but if it required muscling up something was wrong.

Mine's smooth too, I just don't like the wheel compared to the pad UI but I can see how some might like wheel interface.

I was referring to the standard and the requirements of the player. According to those, the support tops out at 32GB.

Well, my last words on the subject: Sandisk formally support microsd/hc cards up-to 32GB. in the manual they say 4GB and up, but on their own support site they state up-to 32GB.
Any other tricks or methods to support cards with greater capacity are not supported on the Fuze/Fuze+/Clip/Clip+/Zip/Zip+ players by Sandisk. Also, I suspect that formatting the new SDXC cards with a different file system will be like trying to get a race car to pull a horse carriage, it's crippling their speed because they are not used to their intended specifications. Last, the higher capacity is not very usable considering most people use lossy formats like mp3/ogg which means a gigantic number of files surpassing the limits of both the regular firmware and rockbox's. That's my two, three cents. |
