Whats the difference between sandisk fuze v1 or v2 ?

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between sandisk fuze v1 and v2 ?

Their doesn't seem to be any obvious difference.

The v2 uses an updated processor that gets somewhat better battery life. Externally, and from inside the sandisk software they are otherwise identical aside from battery life. In rockbox, the v2 hardware is a little better supported since that processor is the same as used in the Clip+/Zip.

How to tell the difference?

Turn it on, go to Settings and find the firmware level. If it starts with 1, it's a V1. If it starts with 2, it's a V2.

And to clear any confusion, the v1 Fuze cannot update to v2 firmware. Similarly, the v2 Fuze cannot downgrade to v1 firmware.

So if someone wanted to buy a Fuze, how would the know which to get?

I've never known a way to order one or the other. You get the one they ship you. More likely than not it will be a V2 as the V1 hasn't been made for some time.

Neither Fuze has been made since sometime in 2010, as the original Fuze was replaced by the Fuze Plus in 2010 (announced Aug 31, 2010 according to Wiki).

If you're buying used, ask what firmware the player is running.

If you're buying new, it's pretty much pot luck.

If you get one, enjoy.

Steve the SanDisk store has them, you just don't know which version you'll get but my bet would be on v2's.

Last time I looked, they had both SKUs. There is a thread about this somewhere with a fairly recent update (last week?).

But I stand by my post. None have been made since sometime in 2010 (or maybe 2009, but I doubt that). I'm sure that Sandisk is just clearing left over warehouse stock.

I wasn't disputing that point, I know they stopped making them a few years back.

forensic did you get one? I assume they're new but I didn't find info saying one way or the other.

You keep mentioning the SKUs like there was something to that besides a half theory that was dropped by the person that proposed it. When you bring up the SKU you should also make it clear that it was never shown to relate in any way to if a Fuze was a V1 or a V2.

At this point in the game (none made in two years roughly), I figure that the SKU means nothing (especially at a non-Sandisk site). But when they were still being made, there was no reason for Sandisk to change the SKU unless there was a difference. What is the difference? Probably V1 versus V2, but you're right we don't really know. No manufacturer wants 2 SKUs for the exact same product. It doesn't really matter anymore, cause Sandisk doesn't have the multiple SKUs on their site this morning.

I can remember the same discussions back in early days when the e200 came out in v2, fact is that sandisk did it without any information release and the rockbox devs noticed right away. Various members not only on this site but other sites that I read found the conclusion to be that there was no way of telling by sku's. A few specific posts were made by people that bought one of each, only to find out that the 2 players were the same version, while others looked at several more and no consistency was found. Later on, I remember the same discussions about the fuze, there isn’t a way to tell by SKU even if it’s directly from sandisk. That said, as you know we're all allowed to believe what ever we wish and even if someone was to buy one of each now to find a difference I doubt that means anything but blind luck.
