Default Camera Extras app released for Nokia’s Windows Phone handsets

Nokia has released a new suite of apps for its Lumia handsets, extending the functionality of Windows Phone’s camera. The Finnish company announced these Camera Extras during the Windows Phone Summit 2012 this week, and rapidly followed up on its promise to deliver the apps in the near future.

Smart Group Shot, which was demoed on stage during the summit keynote, allows you to take a series of group photos and easily choose the best face for each person. The app will automatically attempt to find the best photo, but you’ll be able to tweak each person at will.

Action Shot brings burst shot mode to Windows Phone, making it easier to rapidly take photos. Smartphone cameras aren’t necessarily ideal for fast-action shots, but it works well enough. The app also allows you to view the photos rapidly as if replying a stop-motion video.

Self-Timer is a standard feature on traditional digital cameras, but it isn’t usually found on smartphones. Nokia’s Self-Timer app has a ten-second delay.

Lastly, Panorama allows you to capture wide landscapes with a few simple shots. Nokia promises that the “finished panoramas can be so smooth that you’ll wonder where the joins are.”

These features are automatically added to the camera settings when you download the Camera Extras app from the Nokia collection on the Windows Phone marketplace. The app will work on the Lumia 610, 710, 800, and 900 in the US and Canada. Other regions will receive access to the app next month.

Do you like the new improvements Nokia has brought to Windows Phone’s camera app?

I can't say I've ever used the camera on mine.

This is just a Nokia sop for everyone who bought a Lumia being Beta testers effectively. The commercials were right in an inverted, duplicitous way.
