You don't need to modify it - all USB chargers put out 5V of power, it's a standard.

Default Ipod zen vplus

It wont work, the light just comes on and says batery low, no charging is taking place. I plugged in my ipod just to make sure it works, and it charges my ipod ok. Maybe Apple designed it so that it can only charge an ipod.

Damn, sorry to hear that - sounds like typical Apple tactics.

So the charger is not a standard USB-charger, that's for sure.

Question Charger Problems

I've been trying to charge my Zen with something other than my PC USB. I seldom use PC long enough to put a full charge into it.
I've tried a couple of generic charges. (USB 5 V adaperts) USB hardware interface is simple, power and data, 4 pins. (5 for-on-the go) see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB

Has anyone tried to figure out why non-Creative USB power source does not work to charge ZEN? Seems to me you put 5 V from USB power source and it should charge!

Worst Case: you have to send a USB command over USB to tell ZEN to start charging! That doesn't seem to make sense to me, since I've charged mine with a PC that did not have ZEN Software on it. If no one has worked through this I will, but I really don't want to.

I'd be interested to hear if you work anything out Jay. I have a generic USB charger that doesn't work with my Zen V+, neither does my work PC or my girlfriends PC.

I believe the Zens must be recognized by the computer and "turned on" in some way to charge. If it is not charging on your work or G/Fs puter, check device manager and see if it is recognized. My ZVM will not charge with the puter off, even though it is plugged into a port with full power available.

It didn't show up in device manager on my girlfriends computer or at work, but it works as an external hard drive when I turn that feature on. What an annoying "feature" around charging.

Hi guys, i'm an engineer and i've just built an USB car power adapter according to the USB specs, and that works great with other devices...

Yesterday bought my zen v + 4GB and it doesn't start charging :@

I read here that non creative chargers won't work, but i saw that some of them work fine... I don't think that these charges include a full "expensive" USB interface, maybe it's just a matter of resistances on the data lines; is there any "colleague" so we could work toghether to fix this....?

Default Easy Fix

Creative sells an AC power adapter for that Zen. Cheap also.. Need 5DVC/ 2.4A.

Here’s a model number of one. TESA1-050240

Specs.. You need

Input110-240/AC
Output 5V---2.4A

Thank you guys;
if someone has one, could please open it and take pics? I need to know the exact resistors configuration.

I've just tried an arrangement suggested on an USB.org document and on a topic in this forum, but seems like it doesn't work (terminating to ground D+ and D- lines with 15k resistors, i get just some additional noise on the sound and no recharging ).

I'm trying several resistors configs but i can't get it to work
