Dunno about the V, but on the ZVM, the blue light around the power switch flashes when it is charging. As long as it's doing that, I'd leave it be.

The ZVM never quite had the handshake problem, at least not to the extent you're having. Charging a completely dead ZVM battery on a computer that hasn't yet recognized the device was possible, albeit slow. Some of that was older firmware (firmware 1.60.01 and higher allows the ZVM to charge from unknown hosts, but tries to keep the current at a minimum for safety's sake), and some of that was due to the particular computer itself - some computers only provide trickle current to USB devices it cannot detect.

BTW, about the flashing blue light I have the feling that's the actual handshake debugging code, perhaps five quick flashes means "plug not recognized", just a tought...

*sigh*

was hoping to avoid posting on this, but a see a lot of comments that sound similar to the problams i have been having with my brand new Creative Zen Vision M 60 gig.....but no clear solutions.

sorry if this has all been said before ( and possibly solved) but i searched and couldn't see it.

i have installed everything off the install disc, and the player is recognised, but the player doesn't seem to want to charge. blue light on top is flashing, lightning bolt/battery indicator is alternating......but the capacity bar isn't going up.

i have tried charging it with several different USB cables, from the USB ports on the back of my PC. and i have also tried my old Iriver mains charger.....with no joy

hopefully someone can point me in the right direction, because i am soooo close...but infuriatingly far away from using my shiny new player

sometimes it takes a looooong time to charge from the USB ports. Do you have Version 2 ports?

I've got a slightly odd variation on this - my girlfriend installed her new ZVM on my flatmate's laptop, and all works fine, however when I try plugging my ZVM into it, it doesn't dock. On my laptop, however, both ZVMs work fine. I've tried swapping the cables round and it's the same on both, any ideas?

Hey, I'm new to the forums and I have the the same problem on my Zen. I had for a few months now, and it was great. Much better than an Ipod Video. However, my I forgot my computer amdin password and had to have it the harddrive wiped. The Mediasource program was gone. I downloaded the program on the Creative website. The Program won't recognize that my Zen is plugged in, but when I got On Windows Media, the Zen says "docked" and I can access some of my files on the Zen through Windows Media (except for Playlists for some reason). It's very aggravating. Any tips? If someone is willing to IM me on AIM with tips, I would be glad to accept. Fubaaction562 is my sn. THank you!

It might be the version I need. On the download page there are many different versions. Does anyone know which one is needed? Or do they all work?

FIXED! If anyone has this problem, download the file from http://us.creative.com/support/downl...type=3&x=6&y=7

I clicked #2, the version 5.00.36, but it assume it will differ. I have a 30GB Creative Zen Vision M that I bought in Feb...If that helps ^^

I have a ZVM thats worked perfectly since i got it, but my friend has been having a lot of trouble with hers.

When I turn it on its in recovery mode, and if I plug it in via usb, the device is recognized, and i get the "Portable Device" window. I dont think that there is any firmware installed. When I try to update the firmware, the update program says to connect the player.
I've been reading some of the other posts, and I downloaded the "fixup.zip" file but when I open it it gives me an error in the command prompt saying "The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value you need to install WMP10"
I have WMP 11 on my computer.
I'm very confused
Someone help!!

Never mind...I just reinstalled the cd with the ZVM connected and the display went on, telling me that it is in low batter charge. If it alternates between low and a battery with a lightening bolt then it means its charging right? So far my computer now picks up the ZVM 60GB but if i try to open it then it says that the device is not connected. Is this because it has not reached full charge yet or is it something else! Thanks so much!

Can someone tell me what folder the drivers are in on the cd?

I get "portable devices" to pop up in my device manager but the "creative zen......" has the yellow exclamation point (just like mentioned in the original post). I tried doing what was recommended and update/re-install the drivers but when I let the system search the cd-rom for it, it never finds anything. I've manually gone into the disc and can't find it either.

So does anyone have a link to drivers online that would work?

The "hardware update wizard" tells me "a service installation section in this INF is invalid" and my only option is to select finish.

My player is completely charged, I have XP w/SP2 - I can turn it on and listen to the default audio tracks and videos...I just can't get my computer to recognize it AT ALL!

THANKS IN ADVANCE

also, when I try to allow "everyone" to the USB....I found that in the advanced section I have TWO "everyones".

The one that says "full control" says "not inherited" in the inherited from column...the other says "read" and "machine\system\currentcontrolset......."

Should there be two of them in there??? Because when I try and switch the read to full control, it reverts back as soon as I select apply or ok....I tried deleting it but it re-creates itself soon as I go out of the window.

Sounds like an NT problem. I don't know the exact steps to do this, but you'll need to remove inheritable permissions from that, which will remove the "inherited" attribute, leaving the locally-controllable one.

THAT WORKED!!!!!!!

I went in and unchecked the box in advanced that said "inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child object. inclue these with entries explicitly defined here."

clicked apply, plugged in the Zen.....bam bam bam.....all the windows came up and it installed. opened the firmware upgrade and it said "connected" - YESSS!

Thanks for that little tidbit of info, it helped me look around on that USB screen just long enough to know what to look for! THANK YOU!

I'm glad it worked! It was a bit of a long shot for me, since I wasn't able to visualize it.

i have the exact same problem as ChrisOK up at the top.
my zen won't work at all, and the computer doesn't recognise it.
i've reset it many times, and the best it was doing was going to the Zen startup screen then going black, yet the blue led indicator light at the top stays on until it runs the battery flat.

the only thing i can do with my vision:m at the moment is charge it because now even the screen refuses to budge - when i try to turn the unit on, only the LED light goes on, and stays on, not even the buttons light up.
and i can't turn it off either.

HELP! i was really really having fun with my zen =[

we didn't know whether it was the hard disk gone beserk so we bought a brand new one which cost 60 (AROUND $100-120?)!
anyway we thought we should give that a try since my dad read many reviews on problems with the vision:m, and many people seemed to be getting hard disk errors, even though it never said that on my zen.
today the new hard disk arrived, we put it in, and the zen still doesn't work.
damn

it's charging at the moment since it wasn't charged, but i doubt it'll help much because during charging we've been trying to turn it on, and it hasn't been working.

I NEED IT TO BE WORKING WITHIN A WEEK!
PLEASE HELP!

any ideas on anything else we could fiddle around with inside the zen to see what's up with it?

If you're charging a fully-depleted battery, you have to give it a few hours before trying to turn it on.

If the player itself is okay, then you should end up straight on the Recovery Mode screen upon startup, since your player no longer has all its firmware (you'll have to reload the firmware through Recovery Mode).
