Default Can we use drag n drop to transfer the songs to ZEN?

I just bought a 4GB ZEN, due to it's wonderful screen and attractive price.

However, the windows seems cannot recognize my ZEN as a flash disk....thus I can't use the drag and drop to copy my MP3 to the player....

My question is, is it a must to install the ZEN Media Explorer and sync my MP3 through this software?

Which version of windows? The zen requires XP/Vista. For XP, mediasource is a must. However, I personally dont like syncing.

I'm using Windows XP. Windows simply can't recognize it and acts as a "unrecognized USB device".... Can I use the player (drag and drop MP3 thru Window Explorer) without install anything in my computer?

Ensure you are running service pack 2 and .net runtime.

Test with other cables, and on another computer if you can, The ZVM has had issues like this too. You shouldnt NEED to install anything, but it is really handy to do so.

Check this thread.

I'm using Vista and it recognized my ZEN off the bat. I can drag and drop files directly into it.

Thanks for all your help~ I plugged the players to all of my friends' computers (2 XP machine, 2 Vista machine), they all can work.

Both of my home and office desktops are using Windows XP SP2. Both the player cannot be recognized before any software installed. Then I decided to install the software in my home desktop, it worked.

As I want to figure out the root cause, I try to search the web and test in my office desktop.....However, I cannot get it fix..... Finally I decide to install software in my office desktop also....and of coz it works.

During the troubleshooting, belows are the keywords which related to this unrecognized problem, they are,
1) MTP Device
2) Windows Driver Foundation
3) wpdusb.sys

Check in device manager, are there any unrecognised devices?
