Default Using the media explorer vs. using standard windows file transfers

It seems to me that Windows file transfers are faster and more conducive to transferring multiple folders at once than the Media Explorer software. Is there any reason to use the media explorer over regular file transferring, i.e. more reliable, or should I feel free to uninstall that software?

Feel free to uninstall and go with what works best for you. It's one of the Zen's greatest strengths - flexibility to choose how you want to manage syncs rather than have one "solution" forced on you.

....as long as your choice isnt UMS of course. So basically the choices are "crappy" and "more crappy". Hooray!

"You have the choice - would you like to be electrocuted by 120V or 240V?"

Seriously though, even though MTP is slow and cumbersome compared to MSC, at least Microsoft is generous enough to still allow you to simply drag'n'drop folders onto your player with Windows Explorer (as long as you have WMP11 installed on your system). If you're not bothered by manually adding folders to your player, this might be the most hassle-free approach.

Don't you guys have a puppy to eat?

It's certainly a much better choice than what iPod or Zune offers!

Wait.... I'm not wild about some aspects of media explorer, but won't you also give up the video conversion functions if you don't use media explorer?

Media Explorer's video converter is absolute crap. You won't miss anything by not using it, except a lot of headaches and false "not compatible" errors.

Interesting... I've only done a couple of test conversions from my camera, and a CNET video 'cast.... so I've not tried to do much with it yet. I do hope eventually to put movies on from my own collection, but I know there's a lot of messiness with trying to extract the data from my DVDs so I put off that headache for now.

So, maybe I should be starting a whole new thread... what do people use for video converters? There's so many out there and they're mostly free and of dubious quality (and security).... any reccs?

You might want to take a look at the Videos subforum at the top of this forum's page. Your question may have already been answered. If not, feel free to post your video-related question there.
