Default Shortest. Cable. EVER!

Wow, what is this thing, an inch long? I think they went a but extreme with how micro it is.

Anyone have any suggestions for something a little longer and actually usable?

Ahhh. Well, that's easy. It's a standard USB cable, and uses standard plugs. You can buy a longer one pretty much anywhere that sells computer equipment. You might even have two or three of them in your junk drawer somewhere.

at first, i was quiet surprised people would complain about something like the length of a adapter cable supplied. i mean, its a mini usb, not like special ipod connectors. you can get these anywhere, literally. i have like 2 extras from my cell phone adapters that came with cell phones along time ago. i guess its reasonable complaint, but an easy fix.

I actually prefer the shorter cable. It is much easier to carry around. Sometimes I even use just a USB adapter instead of a cable. Simular to the one below:

Is there a difference in the kind of cable? I have an older one here but is it good enough? Like, how do I know if it's a 2.0 cable and not some 1.0 thing that wont charge the device?

Exactly-I was a bit taken back by the short cable and then pulled open my "spare parts drawer" & viola cables out the wazoo, I had 3 extra long mini usb to usb cables.
So I carry the short on ein my laptop case. More annoying is the lack of a seperate wall charger.

Just try it out. You should either see the Zen fail during detection after plug in or it will detect it correctly, load the drivers, but have a slow transfer rate compared to the shorter version that came with it.

EDIT: Oh, and welcome back Zenchick! Hope you had a good break

Short? that thing is about 5 times as long as the one I use. I want one about twice that long too though, for my USB sound card.

I also find it easier to carry around. It's rather adapter than proper cable, handy to use with USB hubs and laptops.

The wall charger, car charger and sync cable from my Blackberry Curve all work with my Zen.

Not long in terms of time in general. I was just used to seeing some ZenChick postings on a daily basis.
