I'd have purchased another one and returned the "cracked" one very shortly after, making sure not to deal with the same employee, or having a friend (one with a car?) ;-) return it so I was not recognized. to resolve the "crack" you need to let the battery run down completely so the player does not work at all. Simply state that it stopped working. No one is being hoodwinked, you are simply correcting an imperfect system. My experience with BB service has been typically much better than yours, but I feel that CS and Geek Squad are setup for failure in most every way.
