On Screen Display problem

I just got a A728B today. Finally figured how to sync it without copying all my songs over...

Anyway, I noticed in pictures, online vids etc, there is a display of the song playing, battery life indicator on the bottom of the screen. I don't have that on mine. At most it shows the length of the song playing or the length of the song that has played stuck at some random number. Ex 1:30 or 1:30/3:00 And does not change. Then if I have it on shuffle or repeat that indicator is visible. I do not have what song is playing nor how much battery is left, etc.

I figured it could be fixed with a firmware update. It has 1.0 on it currently, but the Sony site only has 1.01 and it's for the Best Buy music site (?), which I'm not even using...

Any one have any suggestions? On what's wrong / how to fix it?

how are you encoding your music? i think its the file that is a bit messed up.
its not the firmware, i have 1.0 as well.
picture of album only shows if you embed the picture in the file tag.
