Where is the charge indicator on the 728

I charge it, but have no idea how charged it is, or how much power is left before it dies?

From left to right, the bottom bar displays:
Play status (pause, playing, fast forward, etc)
Time remaining in current song
Shuffle (or nothing)
Type of repeat (playlist, song)
Equalizer
Charge meter

So it should be at the bottom right of your player. If it's not, hit the reset button. Somebody else had that problem on this forum and that fixed it.
