i need a link for the download of an old media explorer version 5.20.12

if anybody knows the link or has the file plz reply!!!! to either this thread or my e-mail address xkrnfreakx***********

my zen was having some problems so i thought by deleting and reloading the firmware that it would be ok.

i was stupid and deleted the firmware in the recovery mode first before it was connected to my computer and now whenever i connect it to my computer to upload the firmware it always tells me to connect my zen.

however, on the screen of my zen i'm in the recovery mode and it says docked. what do i do now?

hey, i need an old firmware version that is pretty hard to find on the web

i've tried searching for about 3 days already and i can't manage to find it.

i'm looking for the firmware version 1.40.02

if you can't find this one at least send me a link to one of the 1.5 firmware series versions.

plz send me a link for a download either on this thread or my e-mail address!!!

thank you to those who helped!!

I am having the same problem and now I think I have my computer screwed up to boot. I hate to say this, but I am about ready to get an iPod. Mine is out of warranty, so, I basically will have a lot wrapped up in repairs if I send it to creative. I need step by step instructions that do not jump around, because I am not an expert on the computer.

xkrnfreakx and Creativegirl: What is your OS? If it is Windows, do you get the audible alert when connected? How is Device Manager loading the driver; any errors? What version of WMP do you have installed? You may want to have a read through this thread since you are having connection issues. Many possible solutions are in that thread. Including this post Creativegirl.

i don't really know what OS stands for so i can't answer that question.
i do get the audible alert when connected.
there are no errors with device manager, it clearly recognizes that my zen is plugged in, but it's just odd that i can't upgrade the firmware.
i have wmp 11 installed.

OS = Operating System
Is the ZVM listed under Portable Devices within Device Manager?
If you open WMP11, does it recognize the ZVM?
If you open My Computer, do you see the ZVM as a Portable Device?

When you open WMP, go to the Tools menu and select the Options. Then select the Devices tab and it should scan for a device. It should find the ZVM. Also, try drag-and-drop to the ZVM from within Windows Explorer. Select/Copy a couple songs or videos and then try pasting them to the appropriate folders on the ZVM.

It sounds as though your ZVM is connected just fine. Are you sure you are loading the correct firmware? I would try Creative's Recovery Tool instead of the downloaded firmware file to upgrade the firmware.

Why do you even want the older firmware?<O</O

i thought maybe the old firmware might downlaod onto my zvm T_T

none of the advice you gave me worked. in wmp it doesn't show my zvm on the device list.

and i've already tried the creative recovery tool also...

i think i might have to throw this zvm away

The problem you are having is most likely with the computer and not the ZVM. So any version of the firmware won't really make a difference. Just try and get the latest version of the firmware installed. Were you able to copy and past to the ZVM? You have a good connection, so the issue looks to be software related. Make sure all of the Creative software is uninstalled. It is known to cause the issue you are having. Once all of the Creative software is uninstalled, try updating the firmware again. If it still doesn't detect the Zen, try reinstalling WMP11. Also, do you have another computer you can try and connect the ZVM to, to see how it is detected?
