Default Avi's only playing first six seconds - should I upgrade Firmware?

Basically I like watching anime on my Zen but apparently with some of the newer encodes I can only watch the first 6 seconds.
I still have the original firmware that came with my Zen 1.30.02 and it's done me good and I can convert the videos.
I just have to know if the firmware updates avi compatibility [though I don't like the thought of losing my record feature for the radio *yay NPR*].

So does anyone know?

I don't know whether it will make your videos work properly but you should upgrade your firmware. The newest version won't cause you to lose radio recording anyway.

Yeh quite a while ago one of the firmware updates removed radio recording but the latest one has got it still.

Yes, FM recording was once removed, and then restored. The latest firmware for the ZVM would be best. Like XJ3f3Y mentioned, you will not lose FM recording by upgrading to the latest firmware. I'm not so sure if any firmware after the 1.30.02 directly addressed any AVI playback issues or not; it may. The latest (1.62.02) doesn't say anything about it.

I agree with upgrading the firmware, though I don't believe it will solve this AVI problem you're having. For that, I'd suggest taking a good look at the settings for the encoder you're using.

....and maybe even the encoding program you're using as well.

Updated. Didn't fix the avi thing (though it's running much faster *huzzah!*) but it's okay. I'll just put stuff on it that I really want.
*It's not my encoding program as I get some from torrent places and it depends on what they use - used to work just fine *whistles innocently**

Thanks for the advice guys ^^

Since it didn't help with the AVI playback, try booting the ZVM into Recovery Mode and selecting a Cleanup from the menu to see if that helps.
