Default Sound is really low

Just got my pilot 4gb player and when I am playing mp3's or movies (anything really) the volume is pretty low. Even at 40 volume setting if Im in a gym with weights or machines running the sound is drowned out.

I got this player used and was wondering if there is a way to adjust the volume to a normal level.

I have some Dynex over the ear headphones. The work fine in my dvd player, my ipod and other players but in this player the volume is low.

I have some Insignia Bluetooth headphones also that have great volume but the audio will not sync with the video via bluetooth so I don't use them much. Their is about a 2 seconds lag between the audio and video over bluetooth.

Is the headphones plugged in all the way? What headphone jack are you using?

Maybe the kind of headphones you are using, do they let a lot of sound through them?

I tried 2 other pair of headphones and what I noticed is when the volume is at 10 or below I cannot hear anything. At 40 it is kind of loud but not ear piercing and I could easily hear someone speaking to me.

Im assuming the unit has a bad equalizier or something as the sound doesnt get too loud.

I use a Xenos 3 headphone amp and it makes my E3c's rock! (any Burr-Brown chipped amp will truly add to your experience...especially when listening to HQ encoded songs). I never listne with my cans simply hooked up to a digital player.
