Feature requests for S61x series

Three things I'd like to see:

1) Delete option on player - really hate having hook up to PC to delete files.

2) On-the-fly playlist option - please? This would make a great player just perfect.

3) BOOKMARKING function - pretty pretty please. I know it's meant as mainly a music player, but cut us audiobook people some slack, too. No bookmarking just rots!

I would like that as well. Also would be nice to be able to have a video out.

video out is not supported in the hardware... it would require a hardware change

I'd like the ability to power off the player completely, instead of having it go into standby and having to remember to turn on the hold switch.

I'd also like the ability to display album art by simply including it in the folder with the songs, rather than embedding it in the id3 tag.

Great suggestion - I'm always forgetting to put it on Hold, and it drives me nuts when I find it's been running for who knows how long.

I'd like the listed features for the A810 series as well.

1) Delete option on player - song sucks & I wanna' remove it without com hookup.

2) On-the-fly playlist option - This is something standard on most players.

3) Gapless - the space between songs is a bit LOOOOOOOONG sometimes.

- Smaller fonts (user selectable), especially when browsing through albums, artists etc... (would allow for more characters on screen at once)

- More info when browsing... eg. browsing tracks (show duration etc)... browsing albums (show artist etc)...

- Screen orientation.... allow for different screen orientation (horizontal/vertical) in all the menus... not critical but would be nice, the wider view would help with long names and lists.

- Faster song FForward/Rewind. There should be a speed increase when the key is held for an extended period of time like in some other players. Currently, the speed stays constant throughout. Tough when you're dealing with large tracks/audiobooks etc.

- Display a NEW symbol for tracks added in the last sync? Similar to the videos part? And the ability to show all the new tracks in a list and play them.

- Additional option for screensaver... I'd like to see the current playing track screen or similar one instead of the clock, dimly lit and perhaps appearing every few seconds (just like the clock) to save on battery.

- Option to bypass the USB data connection and go into charging only mode. Connect the USB cable, device goes into data transfer (+charging) mode, can't listen to music. Disable connection mode, cable still connected, device disconnects from Windows, keeps on charging, becomes functional again for music etc...

- More video container support (avi, flv). More codecs H263/VP6 (most flash videos, youtube etc)

- Display free capacity (memory) on the player.

- Lots of stuff... if only Sony bothered

As an audiobook listener I would vote for a bookmarking feature.

However, does Sony ever release updated firmware with new features or is this list likely to be just wishful thinking?

The only time Sony seems to release FW updates is if there's a prob with the current release. current release is A-OK! Don't hold your breath - I wanted an update myself. So it's a no-go on their part.
