S618 manual and other questions..

I've been looking for the s618 manual online and can't find it. Anyone got a link?

Also has anyone used a USB charger powered by batteries (something like mintyBoost see http://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/) to power the player once the battery runs out or is close to it. That is can you charge it with such a device while listening to it at the same time?

Also is the input voltage self regulated or do you need to supply a constant 5V 100mA (or whatever the spec is) and it expects a regulated supply while charging?

Finally anyone got a service manual for the s618?

This unit looks like it just might be my next player.

Well as long as it's 5V it shouldn't fry it. I guess there has to be some minimum threshold (mA) wise that is achieved before it charges since most charges that switch off automatically use this threshold to know when to switch off charging. A full battery won't draw much.

The 800mA is just what the max you can safely draw from the charger before it starts to melt. Chances are that it probably only charges at 500mA since this thing charges off USB the USB spec is 5V and 500mA at high power (powered hubs). Of course if you have a custom charger via pop port with the optional cradle that goes to a wall outlet then it will probably do somewhere close to <800mA since a few extra pins may tell it that it can draw more. The mA being pulled depends totally on the player if my understanding of electronics is right.

Anyone want to comment on this who may be more knowledgeable?
