I have had my clix 2 for only about 8 or 9 months, and I believe it has broken in a very peculiar manner. While it still works in all the normal ways and charges etc., it will no longer connect to a computer to do file transfers. When I connect it to my windows XP laptop (which I have used with it since I got it, and has worked fine scores of times), it now says "USB Device Not Recognized" and says that the USB device has malfunctioned and thus is not recognized. It doesn't appear as a drive or anything, but for some reason it will still charge via USB (yes, it is on power and data).
To make sure it wasn't that my computer had broken USB ports, I plugged it into a macbook and into a Vaio desktop computer, with the macbook not even recognizing that anything was attached and the Vaio giving the same error message as my laptop. Given that the player still works normally otherwise, I am inclined to think that the failure was due to a hardware problem, though given that it still charges, perhaps the USB is still operational, but a certain part of the firmware became corrupted. Honestly, I don't know what to do and I don't think it is under warranty anymore (I think it was only 90 days). Somewhat annoying that such an expensive device would break so quickly. This will make me hesitate when I get a new device (if I can't fix this one) as to whether I want to get an iriver, I'll probably go with Sony now. Disappointing and surprisingly shoddy work from a company such as iriver. |

So I assume you already tried reset, format, and switching b/w MTP - MSC mode?
BTW, iriver warranty is one year.

I tried the reset hole, formatting, switching back and forth between MTP and MSC modes, and it still doesn't work, though now I have an empty broken iriver clix 2. Thanks, I checked out the warranty page, and turns out 90 days is the "limited warranty," not the 'new' warranty. I don't have the original packaging or anything, but I guess I'll try shipping it back to them. Nothing else to do, I suppose.

You should called them for a RMA first before sending it back.
