Hi there peeps,
I've had my zvm 60gb for a few years now and never seen anything like this happen before.Basically i had decided i was going to format it and put on new stuff.I picked it up,turned it on and then it came up in the video section,so i pressed the arrow to go back cause i wanted to get out of there and then it just went black and has stayed black ever since. I've tried resetting and all other options i could think of but nothing seems to work. All the blue lights are working (not flashing),but apart from that it doesnt react to anything.I'm not hearing any clicking sound from the hd so hopefully that's ok.Should i just let the battery run down and hope it'll reset itself after that or has somebody got an idea what's gone wrong ?. Cheers Vinny |

Was the battery full at the time? It could be the motherboard. If it has not beenused for a while the battery may have just died & needs a recharge. It it gets hot charging then a new battery is in order.

Battery was actually half full at the time.I did notice that the battery indicator went into the red and then jumped backed up to half when I switched it on so I'm not sure if that says anything.

Your battery connector could be bad or loose. There are guides in this forum for the ZVM teardown(taking it apart) If you care to look. Off course since you've had it a few years the battery may be on it's last leg so I'd replace that.

Hello Vinny. Yeah, double check the battery connection. I would also open it up and disconnect the battery instead of waiting for the battery to run out. Lithium-ion batteries do not like being drained completely like that.
If you need a new battery, you should be able to find the battery in stock by searching EBay or Google Shopping and you should get plenty of places that sell a battery for the ZVM. Here is the ABI disassembly guide. Here is a video of a disassembly.

I've had great success with this routine. It's a marvelous feature of the Zen Vision M. I was about to let this player go, but the hard drive was obviously still functioning. My freeze problem was apparently related to an error on the disc which "recovery mode" did fix. Hurray. Saved me $400 on yet another gadget!

Although Recovery Mode options can be used for many different issues, keep in mind here his issue looks to be more power related; a locked up unit with a black screen, depleted battery indicator, that won't even reset.
