While checking for cases for my pilot today at best buy.com I was surprised to see a NEW pilot offered!

Micro SD slot? I'm glad I only spent $20 on a 16 GB SDHC card. Touch Screen? I'm not so sure I like that feature on a 2.4" screen...doesn't say anything about video out or number of outputs. I wonder how hard it will be to get to the SD cover on THIS model...tee-hee-hee.

After looking at the Insignia's web site, I do not see it there, yet.

Yeah, it just looks like this is a replacement, not so much an extension of what we have now. Of course, it could be a unified OS/UI that can use the wheel in place of a touch screen, but I wonder if this might be too much UI for the current unit to handle.

I went to the big best buy in my area, and there was still a Pilot on display. But i think they're out of 8 GB Pilots..

Oh, and both the regular 4 and 8GB Models of the Pilot are gone from the Best Buy site. All that's left is this mysterious new Pilot...

Wow, they did disappear. I wonder there is still going to be a replacement, but Best Buy made that mistake by accident. Plus there is nothing new on Insignia's site. Now, I wonder if there is Best Buy employees looking on here since they removed this "new" Pilot.

It is getting close to Thanksgiving and Christmas. It might pop up closer to that time, but never know with Best Buy.

Its a marketing strategy. Best Buy probably hoped build some buzz about the upcoming players by "accidentally" jumping the gun and posting the new players. However, nobody (not even ABI) cared (except for us in the forum!). That probably might be enough to kill the line. Sad, very sad.

If it was a marketing strategy, then it was a very bad one. There weren't even pictures.

Well it is definitely a new model. The outgoing pilot offered 25 hours of playback (advertised). This "new" pilot is advertising 33 hours. That's a nice bump in play time. It's too bad that the display didn't increase in resolution and that it is a touch screen and has microSD rather than regular SD.

THE BEST NEWS hopefully is that since the player has evolved rather than completely changed that there may be hope for a firmware update for the current pilot!!!
